Running back Quentin Castille is no longer with the Nebraska football team after Coach Pelini dismissed him for “clearly” violating team rules. It has been rumored that Castille got in trouble for the second time for whatever he did so he clearly didn’t learn from his mistake the first time.
Quentin Castille has been dismissed from the football team,” Pelini said. “He is no longer a member of the football team. We have guidelines, we have policies that we’ve set up here, we have a culture we have set up here. It’s pretty black and white my expectations and what we lay out as a staff, and if someone doesn’t follow those policies and guidelines, they’re no longer going to be with the program, and that’s the case with Quentin.
“I wish him luck. He’s a good kid, he’s just not going to be with our program anymore. I wish him luck in the future. The book is closed on that.”
Pelini then went onto say that true freshman Rex Burkhead is the clear #2 running back and will see plenty of action this upcoming season. Burkhead will team up with Roy Helu and be the 1-2 combination. The combination will be more about speed rather then speed and rolling through defenders as both runners are more of the juke and slashing type rather than a bulldozer like Castille was.
Also expect to see Austin Jones, Collins Okafor, Dontrayevous Robinson and Lester Ward to be in the mix to get some carries in the backfield. Marcus Mendoza is also back at the running back position and getting some snaps there as well as at the slot receiver position.
I wish Castille the best where ever he lands. I would guess it would be down in Texas somewhere or in Georgia where he spent the summer with family.

I wanted to see Burkhead run this year anyway. I am glad Coach sticks to his guns.

I don’t quite understand the Huskers pre-season hype….a quarterback with 2 all time completions…thin at back up…now a freshmen running back….it’s a long fall when you set on the clouds thinking you’re on top…
Huskers at best 7-5…and a trip to the Boise Blue Bowl…

Red Basher: Zac Lee has also played Juco ball and was a very highly rated JUCO quarterback who was in the system all of last year.
I’m just fine with a Roy Helu and Rex Burkhead backfield. Sure I would love to have seen Castille in the backfield but Burkhead will hold his own and have a nice Freshman campaign in my opinion. The Big 12 North is weak and the Huskers will be right in the mix along with Kansas. Yeah, that’s right, NO MISSOURI…
