Lincoln, NE - The Huskers (11-2) use a myriad of pitchers to defeat South Dakota State 7-3 on a picturesque Tuesday afternoon. Erik Bird got the start and looked sharp going just 3 innings, allowing just one hit, striking out 3, and hit 1 batter.
From there on, Matt Freeman, Mike Nesseth, Michael Mariot, Casey Hauptman, Zach Heer, and Erik Anderson each pitched an inning to shore up the win.ÂÂ
The offense pounded out 13 hits and Craig Corriston continued to shake off the early season rust to power the Huskers with a nice 3 for 4 day with an RBI and 2 runs scored. Jake Opitz also had a nice 2 for 4 day with 2 RBIs, including a 2 RBI double in the bottom of the 5th for the go ahead lead.
The win was the Husker’s 10th in a row, all on this current homestand. The Huskers travel to Kansas State on Friday for 6:30 pm start and the first game of the Big XII season.
