The Nebraska Football team and possibly the Nebraska Baseball team have will have a new player on the roster in 2009 after wide receiver Khiry Cooper accepted a scholarship offer to join the Husker football team. Cooper has also talked with Mike Anderson about playing on the baseball team.
It came down to Arkansas or Nebraska, and after talking with the coaches at both schools, Copper decided the University of Nebraka was the best option for him. Cooper is expected to be be drafted in the next baseball draft in the first 10 rounds, but says he would rather play both sports in college before trying professional baseball.
Welcome to the Big Red Family Mr. Cooper!
The Nebraska Cornhuskers have received another verbal commitment from a player in the state of Texas. Lester Ward says he will be a Husker once he signs his letter of intent on Wednesday.
Ward is a 6’3 220 lb running back that missed the first six games of his senior season with a hamstring injury. He still rushed for over 100 yards in the final four games of his highschool career however. Ward was once a Baylor commit, and had scholarship offers from schools like UCLA, Vanderbilt, TCU, and Tulane.
Alfonzo Dennard has never stepped foot on the University of Nebraska campus, but he knows that is where he wants to goto college and play college football. Secondary coach Marvin Sanders met with Dennard and his family a few nights ago, and Dennard knows that is exactly who he wants to play for.
Dennard is a 5’10 199 lb cornerback from Rochelle, GA. At one point he was a North Carolina commit but North Carolina was unsure if he would qualify. Dennards high school coach says he does have a little bit of work left in the classroom, but he expects him to make the grades to qualify.
