As the Huskers took the field this Friday afternoon, you had to ask yourself which Nebraska team will show up. Is it going to be the error prone Huskers? Or the confident and slugging Huskers? Too bad for the Islanders of Texas A&M- Corpus Christi the confident and slugging Huskers came to play today. Very impressive Arizona State transfer, Drew Bowman, started on the mound today for the Big Red. He pitched six innings and only gave up seven hits, and one earned run. Also, he allowed no walks and almost doubled his strikes over balls ratio. On offense, a lot of the production came from the bottom of the order with the six, eight, and nine hitters Jake Opitz, Thad Weber, and DJ Belfonte. Just them combined: seven for ten, four RBI’s and five runs.
The Islanders scored their only run in the fifth inning off Bowman, when the strung together three hits. Shortly after that, in the sixth inning, Steve Edlefsen came in and and pitch an inning, then back-up first baseman and current DH, Thad Weber came in and threw two scoreless innings. The Huskers played a lot of “small ball today. With a lot of bunts, sacrafice hits and steals; it is very obvious that Nebraska has focused on that in practice.
Tomorrow the Huskers will take on the number six Rice Owls. Many thought with the recent “suspension of Husker pitcher Tony Watson, that the Owls would beat up on the Big Red. But actually, pitcher Charlie Shirek was going to start the game regardless of Watson. This is a very big game for the Huskers, it will give us a big jump in the poles if we take this one. The Owls are a strong team from top to bottom and it should be a good game. It starts at 1:00pm, and can be heard online at this link:

DJ, when do you think the Coach Anderson will move Belfonte into the lead off role permantely? Is he just giving him more at bats lower in the order to see how he handles himself since he is only a freshman?
