Nebraska defensive end Barry Turner heads a list of six returning Huskers who required offseason surgery and won’t be ready when spring football practice starts in March. Turner underwent shoulder surgery after the Cotton Bowl. The junior-to-be is the expected starter at the open-side defensive end slot next season after backing up Jay Moore the past two seasons. He was a freshman All-American in 2005.
Nebraska coach Bill Callahan said the following players also won’t be ready for contact until preseason practice starts in August: offensive lineman Jacob Hickman (knee); cornerback Corey Young (shoulder); defensive tackles Seth Jensen and Craig Roark (both shoulders); and tight end Mike McNeill (shoulder).
Also, Callahan confirmed that center Chad Roark, Craig’s brother and a transfer from Oklahoma, is no longer with the team. Back problems have ended Roark’s playing career and he is expected to attend East Central Oklahoma in his hometown of Ada.
