I’m really lost for words as I try to write this blog article about the Nebraska - Oklahoma State game yesterday. The coaching staff and the players looked completely lost in the second half yesterday as the Cowboys ran and passed all over the defense. On offense, the Huskers couldn’t do anything in the second half which was suprising how they played in the first half.
The Huskers got out to a great start in the game, as Brandon Jackson ran all over the Cowboy defense as he racked up over 100 yards in the first half. Most of the yardage came in the first quarter, as Jackson for some reason only two carries int he second quarter. Besides Jackson, Marlon Lucky was the only other running back to really see action during the game. He was only valuable on middle screen plays though and didn’t provide that much offense for the team.
The offense and defensive lines played one of their worst games of the year for sure. The offensive line could not handle the Cowboy blitzes as Zac Taylor was under pressure all day long. When he did have time he was able to connect with Maurice Purify but that was not as often as they needed. I sure hope Kurt Mann get healthy quick, and is back starting at Center so he can call out the line movements and blitze protection for the team.ÂÂ
On defense, oh where do I begin? Do I begin with Coach Cozgrove who called a shitty game in the second half? It didn’t even seem we had linebackers playing yesterday as the OSU running backs were either being tackled by the safties, or ran down from behind by the corners. It was pretty damn terrible. There is absolutely no depth at linebacker due to injuries and it is really showing at this point in the season.
On the special teams, not having a kicker that can kick it into the end zone or goal is really hurting the teams. So many times, the special teams have given the opposing team great field position to start their drives it puts the defense in tough situations. When was the last time Nebraska missed two extra points in one game? I don’t even know the answer to that, but the kicking and kicking protection has got to improve.
I’ll have a write up about the Nebraska - Missouri game in a few days. So far I do know that it will be on ABC regional at 12 eastern time.
